911 is Jordan's centralized emergency line. Call this number should you need immediate police or medical assistance. The Embassy does not provide emergency services.

If you feel your life or safety is threatened, or would like to report a crime, please contact the Jordanian Public Security Directorate (PSD).  This is the national police force of Jordan.  The U.S. Embassy does not guarantee your safety in Jordan; this is the responsibility of the government of Jordan.

If you are a U.S. citizen with an after-hours emergency, please call our hotline at (+962-6) 590-6000.  For non-emergency situations, please use our general contact number by calling (+962-6) 590-6950 between 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, excluding U.S. and Jordanian public holidays and the last working day of the month.

The U.S. Embassy has limited authority to act in Jordan.  Jordan is a sovereign country and is responsible for the safety of all persons in Jordan, including U.S. citizens.  In emergencies, you should contact the Jordanian authorities directly.

If you have a serious injury or illness, please proceed directly to the nearest hospital or treatment facility.  The U.S. Embassy can neither provide nor direct individuals to specific facilities to provide medical care.

What do I report to the U.S. Embassy?

Please report deaths, arrests, and serious injuries or accidents resulting in hospital stays to the U.S. Embassy at (+962-6) 590-6000.  In emergencies, the U.S. Embassy will help you communicate with your family in the United States, understand local procedures, and may be able to provide other assistance, as appropriate.

What if my family needs to reach me?

If your family needs to reach you because of an emergency at home or because they are worried about your welfare, they should call the Department of State’s American Citizen Emergency Center at +001 (202) 647-5225.  The Department of State will relay the message to local consular officers, who will try to locate you, pass on urgent messages, and report back to your family, while acting in accordance with the Privacy Act.
