The Political Section is responsible for advising the Ambassador on overall political relations between the United States and the Republic of Poland, seeking to build support in the Polish government and society for U.S. policies and for strong U.S.-Polish relations, and keeping the U.S. Government informed of relevant political and social developments in Poland, and their impact on U.S.-Polish relations.

The Section works to advance U.S. positions and increase bilateral cooperation across a broad range of issues, including political-military relations, human rights, foreign policy and law enforcement coordination.  Members of the section frequently travel throughout Poland to advance close ties and promote mutual understanding.  The Section also works in support of U.S. cooperation with the European Union on issues of global concern.

The Section is headed by the Counselor for Political Affairs.  It includes officers and staff members specializing in Polish foreign relations, domestic affairs, and political-military affairs.
