INVEST logoFHWA's Infrastructure Voluntary Evaluation Sustainability Tool (INVEST 1.0) is an online, self-evaluation tool intended to help transportation agencies incorporate sustainability in decisionmaking and advance projects that yield economic, environmental, and social benefits. Environmental justiceU.S. DOT recently issued an update to the Environmental Justice Order to promote the principles of Environmental Justice in all U.S. DOT programs, policies, and activities. Also, FHWA recently issued guidance on addressing Environmental Justice during the NEPA review.
ESA WebtoolThe ESA Webtool is an online tool to streamline the preparation of Biological Assessments and the consultation process under Section 7 of the Federal Endangered Species Act for projects where the Federal Highway Administration is the lead federal action agency. Section 4(f) Policy Paper graphicOn July 20, 2012, FHWA released an updated version of the Section 4(f) Policy Paper to provide information about applying the regulation, which requires the consideration of park and recreational lands, wildlife and waterfowl refuges, and historic sites in transportation project development.
