The National Institutes of Health (NIH) offers a variety of graduate medical education (GME) experiences and research training opportunities to highly qualified individuals interested in pursuing careers as physician-scientists, clinician-investigators, or institutionally based academicians. The NIH Clinical Center is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) as a sponsoring institution for GME on the NIH campus. The NIH Clinical Center currently sponsors 16 ACGME accredited specialty or subspecialty training programs. The NIH also supports ACGME-accredited, jointly sponsored programs with several extramural training partners within the greater Washington, DC area, and sponsors numerous non-ACGME-accredited fellowship training programs within its 27 Institutes and Centers.
