The “Coalition for Increasing Awareness about WTO” is undertaking a series of World Trade Organization (WTO) outreach seminars throughout Azerbaijan. Established by two leading nongovernmental organizations (NGO), the Coalition also includes smaller organizations, such as the Azerbaijan Marketing Society and Praxis. As Azerbaijan works towards WTO accession, local business leaders are gathering to learn more about the Government's progress and to understand the benefits of membership to their country and to the private sector.

On February 5, 2009, over 40 businesses, NGO, and government representatives attended the first regional seminar, held in the Sumgait region. Additional seminars took place in Gusar, Mingachevir, and Zakatala, with a final seminar in Masalli, southern Azerbaijan, on May 29, 2009.  Specialists led each seminar, which consisted of discussions regarding the economic growth and job creation impacts of WTO accession within the context of the region's unique economic characteristics.

Since 2008, USAID has provided a wide array of technical assistance and training to facilitate Azerbaijan's WTO accession, including the preparation of 35 laws and legal acts, and helped dramatically improve the quality and responsiveness of Azerbaijan's accession documentation.
