Important notice: DEC offices relocating as of May 1 2008

As part of the consolidation of USAID institutional contract support services, the Development Experience Clearinghouse (DEC) is being relocated into USAID space.

During this period of transition, DEC services may be affected. In particular, orders for paper copy documents, especially those requiring conversion from microfiche, will take substantially longer to fill. We apologize in advance for the inconvenience.

Special Collections page added

In response to user requests, we've added a "special collections" page to the site, which allows you to access specific subsets of documents that have been specially tagged in the DEXS. You'll find the link in the blue search section of the navigation.

From the results page, you can email the collection to yourself or someone else, and optionally include the results as an Excel attachment (just like any other result set).

The collections you can access via this page include:

• USAID Program Planning documents
  
  USAID has used a number of different kinds of reporting vehicles to report performance and describe future programs; this collection of over 4,000 documents includes them all: Annual Reports, Operational Plans, R4s, CDSS's -- the lot. You can narrow results by selecting a region or country, or any combination thereof, from the menu. You can also filter by year.
  
  Note that this is functionally the same as using Advanced Search to search for all document type = program planning documents. If you need to filter the collection on more than just country and year, use Advanced Search.
  
  
• USAID Strategic Planning Documents
  
  These include strategic plans, Country Program Strategic Plans, and strategy statements.
  
  
• USAID Oral History Project
  
  USAID's Center for Development Information and Evaluation conducted a series of interviews with retiring USAID staff from roughly 1991-2001. The transcriptions of these interviews provide valuable insight into USAID's in the 70's and 80's.
  
  
• Users' Guides
  
  The Users Guides are overviews of a particular office or bureau's activities and structure at a given point in time. The "users" for these guides are Agency staff seeking to interact with the office or bureau in question; as such they represent an early attempt at a an expertise locator/yellow pages type of system.

February Conversions to PDF ....

USAID Development Experience Clearinghouse staff made an additional 427 documents available online as searchable PDF files during the month of January. These conversions bring the total number of documents converted from microfiche, TIFF, and paper and made available online to 12,087.
