Help for Hardest Hit Homeowners
Mortgage assistance available to unemployed Hoosiers.
The Hardest Hit Fund helps Indiana homeowners who are struggling to make their mortgage payments due to job loss or temporary financial hardship. Qualified homeowners may receive mortgage payment assistance while they search or retrain for new employment. The maximum amount of assistance is either $12,000 or $18,000, depending on the county of residence. All assistance under this program is considered a loan. The loan will only have to be repaid if the homeowner sells the property before the forgiveness period expires (10 years) and there is sufficient equity to pay the loan.
WELCOME! WE'RE HERE TO HELP.
Through the Indiana Foreclosure Prevention Network, Indiana homeowners may access the Hardest Hit Fund. The program will help an estimated 13,392 families who are struggling to make their mortgage payments due to job loss or temporary financial hardship.
If you are an Indiana homeowner who is currently unemployed, or who has been unemployed in the past 12 months, this Web site is the fastest way for families to submit an application for assistance.
To get help, get started right here. Set up a profile and we'll connect you with a housing counseling agency. If you're already working with a housing counseling agency, that's all right too. We'll help you and the agency access assistance. Once you've completed this application a housing counseling agency will contact you about your next steps.
Homeowners not eligible for the Hardest Hit Fund may still receive free foreclosure prevention assistance from the State of Indiana by applying online.
WHAT ARE MY NEXT STEPS?
- Start your application now.
- If you are already working with a counseling agency, make sure to select that agency when you create your account. If you aren't working with an agency a counselor will be assigned to you.
- Complete your application as completely and accurately as possible. The more accurate you are, the more quickly your counseling agency will be able to assist you.
- Collect all required documents (as described during the application process), and fax or hand deliver to your counseling agency.
From Lt. Governor Becky Skillman
Getting help - and getting it early - is critically important. The sooner homeowners recognize they may be at risk and seek help, the more options they have to avoid foreclosure.
