Statement as of 10:37 am CDT on August 20, 2009
... Heat indices between 105 and 109 degrees are expected this
afternoon...
... Isolated heat indices around 110 degrees inland areas...
The combination of hot temperatures and high dewpoints will produce
heat indices between 105 and 109 degrees today. A few locations
could experience heat indices of around 110 degrees for an hour or
two... mainly near and south of a Corpus Christi to Freer line.
These high indices could be dangerous to those who do not take the
proper precautions when outdoors.
Residents with outdoor activities planned are urged to drink
plenty of water... wear light weight and light colored clothing...
and take frequent breaks from the heat... preferably in an air
conditioned area. Young children and pets should never be left
unattended in vehicles under any circumstances in this hot and
humid weather.

... Maximum heat index values 105 to 109 degrees this afternoon...
The combination of very warm temperatures and high moisture
content near the surface will result in heat indices between 105
and 109 degrees this afternoon over the coastal Bend... Victoria
Crossroads... and Rio Grande plains. Affected residents who venture
outdoors today are urged to drink plenty of water... wear light
weight and light colored clothing... and take frequent breaks from
the heat. Young children and pets should never be left unattended
in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true
during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal
temperatures in a matter of minutes.
