Applying for Federal Funding

Competitive grants require an application that includes several pieces of information. Please refer to the full funding opportunity guidance for specific application instructions pertaining to that program. Entities applying for these competitive grants, with the exception of individuals, will need a Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) Number, information about which can be found here. Applicants will also need an active registration with the Central Contractor Registration (CCR). Click here to read about registering.

Please remember to apply for a DUNS number and register with the CCR well in advance, as these processes may take time. Be aware that these instructions are meant to be an introduction to the overall process of applying for competitive grants, not a comprehensive guide on specific application procedures. It is the applicant’s responsibility to be aware of any necessary pieces of information or deadlines pertaining to the appropriate program.

Note: Individuals applying on their own behalf for competitive grants have different requirements and should refer to Grants.gov’s information on Individual Registration for detailed instructions.
