Project Titles:

  • Invasive Species Removal (FFS #R3EQ)
  • Restore Beaver Farm Wetland (FFS #R3ER)

State: Ohio

Project Description: Recovery Act funding has been made available in Ohio to restore fish and wildlife habitat on private lands in partnership with private landowners through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Partners for Fish and Wildlife program. In Ohio, ARRA funds through the Partners program will go toward restoring 140 acres of prairie, wetland, and oak savanna habitat in Marion County. Funds will also support removal of invasive species to restore 100 acres of oak savanna habitat in Logan, Champaign, Madison, Pickaway, and Union Counties in western Ohio; savanna habitat is important for the federally endangered Indiana bat. Partners program projects are typically constructed by local contractors, channeling dollars to the local economy.

The Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program focuses on improving habitat for federal trust resources: migratory birds, federally-listed endangered or threatened species, and interjurisdictional fish. In Ohio, the program supports restoration of wetlands, native prairies, and riparian zones for migratory bird and endangered species habitat. It also focuses resources on control of invasive species in native habitats. Since this program began in Ohio in 1987, nearly 7,000 acres of wetlands and upland habitat have been restored or enhanced, benefiting wildlife, improving soil, water and air quality, and increasing recreational opportunities.
