Financial Institution Data Match
In the 1990's:
- half of marriages resulted in divorce
- over 32% of children were born to unmarried
mothers
- over 23 million children lived in single-parent
homes
- 20% of children lived below the poverty line
Within single-parent homes, only 60% had legally binding
support orders. Of these:
- 50% received full payment
- 25% received partial payment
- 25% received nothing
Financial institution data match (i.e., matching information on
delinquent obligors against records of their financial accounts),
has significantly increased collections toward past payments due
for support of children. Indirect benefits for children
include initiation of regular payments through wage withholding and
payment of the amount due in one lump sum.
