Civic Cinema Classic Films and Dates Announced

Start popping that popcorn and please plan to join us this summer.

Civic Cinema Logo 2009

When: Approximately 9:00 p.m. on June 19, June 26, July 17, July 24, and July 31

Where: Harry E. Kinney Civic Plaza

What to Bring:

  • Pack a picnic, but don't bring any alcoholic beverages or glass containers.
  • Seating and tables will be provided, but you can bring your own blankets and chairs.
  • Pets must be on a leash.

Mayor Martin J. Chávez, the Cultural Services Department, and the Parks & Recreation Department proudly present Civic Cinema, an outdoor film series featuring five free classic films from days of yore.

Join us on Harry E. Kinney Civic Plaza on Friday evenings to watch classic films under the stars, on a giant picture screen. Movies will start at approximately 9:00 pm.

The Lineup

June 19 – War of the Worlds
1953 – ACTION
The film adaptation of the H.G.Wells story told on radio of the invasion of Earth by Martians. Learn more >>

June 26 – West Side Story
1961 – MUSICAL
Musical about two youngsters from rival NYC gangs who fall in love. Learn more >>

July 17 – The Outsiders
1983 - CRIME
When two poor greasers, Johnny, and Ponyboy are assaulted by a vicious gang, the socs, and Johnny kills one of the attackers, tension begins to mount between the two rival gangs, setting off a turbulent chain of events. Learn more >>

July 24 – E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
1982 – ADVENTURE

All films will be open-captioned for the hearing impaired. Non-contracted vendors are prohibited from selling in designated program areas.

Seating and tables will be provided, but picnic supplies, blankets and chairs may be brought as well. Alcoholic beverages and glass containers are prohibited. Pets must be on a leash.
