Protecting Pennsylvania Against Crime

Erie-CPU-sweep1-366x244As Pennsylvania's top law enforcement officer, Attorney General Tom Corbett works to attack drug trafficking, Internet predators, gun violence, public corruption and other criminal activity; making our state a safer place to live, work and raise a family.

"Public safety is the number one mission for government on all levels," Corbett said. "If we can't protect our citizens from crime; if we can't protect our citizens from illegal drugs, child predators and an assortment of other threats, our communities will not grow and our citizens will not prosper."

The Office of Attorney General has a wide range of responsibilities, and our public safety work is conducted in many different ways.

The Criminal Law Division is the largest single section within the office, handling a variety of investigations and prosecutions, including drug enforcement, Internet child predators, organized crime, corruption, insurance fraud, tax crimes, environmental crimes, plus a host of cases referred by local District Attorneys.

Crime prevention is also a major emphasis for the office, working to help people avoid becoming victims of crime.  The office reaches out to families across Pennsylvania with a series of educational programs:

  • Operation Safe Surf - an Internet Safety program for kids, parents and schools.
  • "Think Again" - an education program that stresses the role everyone plays in curbing gun violence in our communities.
  • "Truth & Choices" - an award-winning drug abuse education program for teens, focusing on the true impact of drug abuse.
