Monarch Larva Monitoring Project
The "Monarch Larva Monitoring Project" (MLMP), which began in 1997 at the University of Minnesota, asks citizens to become involved in collecting data that will help to explain the distribution and abundance patterns of monarch butterflies in North America. The university received a three-year grant from the National Science Foundation in 2002 to greatly expand training, analysis and dissemination of this project. The University of Minnesota's "Monarchs in the Classroom" project and the Xerxes Society have also provided financial and other support for MLMP.
