Voice Case Information System (VCIS)

What is VCIS? (pronounced “vee-sis”)
The Voice Case Information System allows you to call the United States Bankruptcy Court's computer from any touch tone telephone and hear the following case information read to you by a computer-synthesized voice:

• Case number
• Names of debtors or principal adversaries
• Case filing date
• Case chapter
• Name of debtor's attorney
• Name of trustee
• Name of judge
• Discharge and closed dates
• Status of the case
• Whether or not the case has assets
• Telephone number of debtor's attorney

What is the charge for using VCIS?
This service is provided free of charge.

When is the service available?
You may call seven days a week, 24 hours per day.

How current is the information?
Since it is retrieved from the court's live database, the information reported is the most current available.

How do I use VCIS?
When you call the special VCIS numbers shown below, the computer will answer the telephone and provide you with detailed instructions. To effectively use the system please have information available before calling.

Effective immediately, please dial 1-888-457-0604 to access case information for all four divisional offices.

When you call the special VCIS number, the computer will answer the telephone and ask you to enter a name. Using the keys on your telephone touch pad, type the name of a participant in the case and then press the pound (#) key. After a few seconds, the computer voice will read the most current information available regarding the case.

HOW TO USE VCIS

Detailed instructions for using VCIS follow. The actual computer voice script you will hear on the telephone is shown in italics.

1. DIAL (888) 457-0604 to access case information for all 4 divisions.

This is the voice case information system at the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California. Cases closed prior to 1990 may not appear on this system. This system reports case information for five participants or cases per call. To hear instructions, press 1. To search by participant name, press 2. To search by case number, press 3.

2. ENTER THE NAME of a case participant, without spaces or punctuation. Press the pound (# ) key to tell the computer you are done with the name.

Type the name of a participant in a bankruptcy case using the letters above the keys on your telephone.

Type the last name followed by the first name, if any. Omit middle initials and ignore any spaces or non-letter characters.

Use the “1" key for the letters Q and Z.

Press the pound (#) key when done.

You may skip to the next case by pressing the “5” key.

You may skip all remaining cases for a participant by pressing the “3” key.

Please enter the name now.

a. Individuals - Do not enter middle initials or names. For example, to enter the name "Joe M. O'Neil," press the following keys:

3. LISTEN and the system will read information about the case. If more than one case matches, information on each case will be read, if you request it.
