    improve water quality and quantity in California.
California Receives $18 Million For Agricultural Water Enhancement Projects

Natural Resources Conservation Service Chief Dave White announced that 15 organizations in California will receive funding from a new program under the 2008 Farm Bill that will help improve water quality and quantity. The funding is being made available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s new Agricultural Water Enhancement Program.

Conservation Innovation Grants 2009
National Conservation Innovation Grants Announced

California organizations are receiving seven of the 55 nationally-approved Conservation Innovation Grants (CIGs), announced by USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack.  The projects will help develop new farmer-friendly conservation technologies in areas such as  sustainable wine-grape growing, on-farm pollinator habitat and biodiversity, conservation tillage and more. Pollinator at work
Helping Pollinators Help the Land

June 22-27 is National Pollinator Week, highlighting the importance of bees and other pollinators in our ecosystems and in agriculture. Pollinators need the attention. They have been declining due to parasites, diseases and a mysterious colony collapse disorder. NRCS in California has been working with private groups and farmers to help native pollinators augment the "labor forces" more traditionally occupied by their domesticated cousins.
