Small-Arms Qualification Underway

Description: Official guidance about Shipboard Small Arms Ranges (SW370-AH-11N-010) doesn’t provide platform-specific guidance for the set-up and preparation of small arms ranges onboard Flight IIA DDGs. Momsen personnel conducted a detailed assessment of range requirements in conjunction with a deliberate review of the Operational Risk Management associated with underway small-arms qualification to create and implement range set-up and range operation instructions.

Data/Validation: During her recent deployment to the Fifth Fleet area of responsibility, nearly 60% of Momsen Sailors successfully completed underway small-arms qualification. All qualification evolutions were conducted with no mishaps and no damaged equipment.
