On May 21, 2009, President Barack Obama made his first visit to the National Archives Building to deliver a major policy speech on national security in front of the Charters of Freedom in the Rotunda. Several members of his cabinet, including Robert Gates, Hillary Clinton, Eric Holder, Janet Napolitano, and Leon Panetta, were in attendance. Acting Archivist Adrienne Thomas welcomed the President to the building.
