Weight of the Nation is designed to provide a forum to highlight progress in the prevention and control of obesity through policy and environmental strategies and is framed around four intervention settings: community, medical care, school, and the workplace. The conference objectives include:
- Highlight strategies that overcome barriers to the primary prevention of obesity for youth and adults in communities, medical care, schools, and workplaces.
- Provide economic analysis of obesity prevention and control efforts (e.g., cost burden of obesity on the health care system and employers, and cost effectiveness of prevention).
- Provide forum to share promising, emerging, and best practices for setting specific policy and environmental initiatives impacting obesity.
- Highlight the use of law-based efforts to prevent and control obesity (e.g., legislation, regulation and policies).
Planning for the conference is being done in consultation with the CDC Division of Adolescent and School Health; the CDC Division of Adult and Community Health; the Association of State and Territorial Public Health Nutrition Directors (ASTPHND); the Directors of Health Promotion and Education (DHPE); and the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD).
