RN - phone referral. Non-medical evaluation (triage, etc.). Symptoms consistent with new ischemic stroke, TIA or unsure? Refer to Emergency Department (ED) or physician's office as appropriate for other conditions. A Symptoms present now? A Possible TIA - symptoms within 2 hours? A Call 911 and transport to ED See ED (Treatment) algorithm Possible ischemic stroke - symptoms onset within 24 hours? A TIA symptoms greater than 2 hours ago, but within last 24 hours? Transport to ED See ED (Treatment) algorithm. A Ischemic stroke symptoms present for greater than 24 hours. *Symptoms mild and stable. A TIA symptoms greater than 24 hrs ago, but within last 7 days? Rapid outpatient evaluation or admit to hospital. Evaluation: *Carotid imaging: ultrasound, CTA or MRA. *Cardiac rhythm assessment. *Echocardiogram (if suspect cardioembolic).
