Obesity is a growing epidemic among children in the United States, spreading faster among Hispanic kids, specifically among Mexican-Americans. Researchers say where these children live, what they eat and what chances they have of engaging in healthy activities are major predictors of their mental and physical well-being as they grow. |
Money Highlights
Recovery Money Available for Research Fall 2009: $300 million in funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will be available for grant and contract solicitations for comparative effectiveness research projects from AHRQ. $250,000 Available for Hispanic Physicians' Leadership Development Initiative Funds will support one competitive cooperative agreement to establish a consortium of institutions for health promotion among Hispanics and other minorities. Deadline: September 10, 2009. |

Social Determinants of Equity and Health in the United States
