TITLE: GCN CIRCULAR NUMBER: 8409 SUBJECT: GRB 081025: Burst detection from Swift-BAT slew data DATE: 08/10/26 01:18:16 GMT FROM: Antonio Copete at Harvard U
A. Copete, J. Grindlay (Harvard) J. Cummings, S. Barthelmy, C. Markwardt, N. Gehrels (NASA/GSFC) We report the detection of a GRB candidate by the BAT Slew Survey (BATSS) in the slew that started at 08:22:02 UT. The ground-calculated position is RA, Dec = 245.298 +60.466 deg, which is RA (J2000) = 16h 21m 11s Dec(J2000) = +60d 27' 58" with an uncertainty of 2.87 arcmin (90% confidence, including systematic error). The detection was triggered by simultaneous independent detections of 12.9 sigma and 13.7 sigma from imaging in the 15-50 keV and 50-150 keV energy bands, respectively. The burst profile shows a series of 4 main peaks starting at T+63sec, which a measured T90 = 23sec and T50 = 17sec, and the burst leaves the BAT field-of-view at T+120. - + Read more

Jay R. Cummings (NASA/UMBC), A. Copete (Harvard), J. Grindlay (Harvard), D. Palmer (LANL), for the Swift-BAT and BATSS teams At 01:10:41, Swift-BAT observed GRB 080702B. The burst occurred during a preplanned Swift slew maneuver. The rate increase was noted during a routine check of the counting rates for missed out- of-field and slew bursts. A GRB candidate was automatically detected by the BAT Slew Survey (BATSS) with 5.9 sigma in the S band (15-50 keV) and 6.5 sigma in the B band (15-150keV). The burst profile is FRED-like with ~3sec rise and ~30sec decay. The peak count rate is 0.05cts/sec (S band) and 0.04cts/sec (B band). BATSS automated analysis measured T90 = 10.5sec and T50 = 5.5sec, and a position RA = 23h 42m 24s, DEC = -05d 29' 23" with a 90% confidence radius of 6.4arcmin. - + Read more

Stamatikos (NASA/ORAU) and M. C. Stroh (PSU) report on behalf of the Swift Team: At 07:50:05 UT, the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) triggered and located GRB 080210 (trigger=302888). Swift slewed immediately to the burst. The BAT on-board calculated location is RA, Dec 251.270, +13.830 which is RA(J2000) = 16h 45m 05s Dec(J2000) = +13d 49' 49" with an uncertainty of 3 arcmin (radius, 90% containment, including systematic uncertainty). The BAT light curve showed a single-peak with substructure with a duration of about 35 sec. The peak count rate was ~2000 counts/sec (15-350 keV), at ~10 sec after the trigger. This was an image trigger, but with a clear light curve. - + Read more

Swift slewed immediately to the burst. The BAT on-board calculated location is RA, Dec 207.513, +7.514 which is RA(J2000) = 13h 50m 03s Dec(J2000) = +07d 30' 50" with an uncertainty of 3 arcmin (radius, 90% containment, including systematic uncertainty). This was an image-trigger, so the TDRSS lightcurve show little activity. - + Read more

Vetere (PSU) report on behalf of the Swift Team: At 07:55:51 UT, the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) triggered and located GRB 080205 (trigger=302506). Swift slewed immediately to the burst. The BAT on-board calculated location is RA, Dec 98.219, +62.769 which is RA(J2000) = 06h 32m 53s Dec(J2000) = +62d 46' 07" with an uncertainty of 3 arcmin (radius, 90% containment, including systematic uncertainty). The BAT light curve shows three roughly equal-height peaks spanning approximately 120 seconds. The peak count rate was ~1000 counts/sec (15-350 keV), at ~0 sec, ~70 sec, and ~95 sec after the trigger. - + Read more

TITLE: GCN CIRCULAR NUMBER: 7226 SUBJECT: GRB 080129 (?): Swift detection of a possible burst DATE: 08/01/29 06:31:10 GMT FROM: Stefan Immler at NASA/GSFC
S. Immler (CRESST/GSFC/UMD), D. N. Burrows (PSU), M. M. Chester (PSU), N. Gehrels (NASA/GSFC), S. T. Holland (CRESST/USRA/GSFC), E. A. Hoversten (PSU), K. L. Page (U Leicester), D. M. Palmer (LANL), D. Perez (U Leicester), M. Perri (ASDC), M. Stamatikos (NASA/ORAU) and G. Stratta (ASDC) report on behalf of the Swift Team: At 06:06:45 UT, the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) triggered and located a possible GRB 080129 (trigger=301981). The BAT on-board calculated location is RA, Dec 105.280, -7.827 which is RA(J2000) = 07h 01m 07s Dec(J2000) = -07d 49' 35" with an uncertainty of 3 arcmin (radius, 90% containment, including systematic uncertainty). The BAT light curve for this event appears to show a duration of about 80 sec with a peak of ~600 counts/sec (15-350 keV), at ~30 sec after the trigger although, as is usual for image triggers, the TDRSS light curve is noisy. The location of the source, 1.4 degrees from the Galactic plane raises the possibility that this is a Galactic transient. Further analysis will require the downlinked data from Malindi. - + Read more

TITLE: GCN CIRCULAR NUMBER: 7209 SUBJECT: GRB 080121: Swift-BAT detection of a very weak, short burst DATE: 08/01/23 20:39:09 GMT FROM: Jay R. Cummings at NASA/GSFC/Swift
J. R. Cummings and D. M. Palmer for the Swift-BAT team At 21:29:55 on Jan 21, 2008, BAT detected a weak short GRB (trigger #301491) at a ground-calculated location RA, Dec 137.235, +41.841, error radius 3 arcmin (90% confidence), which is: RA(J2000) = 09h 08m 56s Dec(J2000) = +41d 50' 29" The significance of the source in the detection image was just below the alert threshold, so Swift did not slew immediately to the burst. In addition, the source location was in Moon constraint, so no late observation was made. - + Read more
