Grant Program
Documenting Endangered Languages (DEL)
Sponsored by NEH and the National Science Foundation, the Documenting Endangered Languages program supports efforts to preserve records of languages that currently face extinction. (It is estimated that roughly half of the 6,000-7,000 languages that are currently spoken are headed for oblivion.) The program offers one- to three-year project grants to support the recording, documenting, and archiving of endangered languages, including the preparation of lexicons, grammars, text samples, and databases. The Division of Research Programs collaborates with the Division of Preservation and Access in administering this program. (Awards made in this program by the Division of Research Programs generally consist of individual fellowships.) Guidelines URL: www.neh.gov/grants/guidelines/del.html Projects
