harkin announces $900,000 safety belt performance grant
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced that Des Moines will be receiving a $914,942 grant from the Department of Transportation to encourage increased safety belt use in passenger motor vehicles. Harkin is a senior member of the Senate panel that funds transportation initiatives.
“The use of safety belts in passenger vehicles is crucial to increasing the safety of Iowans on the roads,” said Harkin. “Every year hundreds of Iowans die in traffic accidents, and many of those deaths could be prevented by the use of safety belts.”
Specifically, this grant will provide continued assistance to encourage the increased use of safety belts.
