Headwater Stream Barriers in
Western Oregon
|
|
This
dataset is an ArcInfo point coverage depicting obstacles to anadromous
fish migration in western Oregon. Data were compiled by fourth-field
hydrologic unit code (HUC) from the Oregon Department of Fish and
Wildlife StreamNet Database
and from reports by fisheries biologists in various management agencies.
Both natural and constructed (e.g., culverts) barriers are represented
in this database. This database was primarily developed to identify
third-order sub-basins above geologic barriers to anadromy, where
resident coastal cutthroat trout (Oncorhynchus clarki clarki)
are the only salmonid present. In many cases, the barriers shown
are the current extent of anadromy; however in some cases barriers
to anadromy may exist downstream of those listed. Additional barriers
upstream of those listed may or may not be present. Watersheds isolated
by the barriers are generally greater than 500 ha (1,200 ac) in
size, although some smaller watersheds are included. Data are projected
in UTM zone 10 NAD27.
