Martha Morphy was appointed Assistant Archivist for Information Services and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in December, 2005. In this position, she is responsible for all Information Technology (IT), including the Electronic Records Archives (ERA) project. The ERA system will preserve and provide long-term access to uniquely valuable electronic records of the U.S. Government, and will transition government-wide management of the lifecycle of all records into the realm of e-government.

While at NARA, Ms. Morphy has been the Director of Information Technology Policy and Administration, responsible for IT Policy, Capital Planning and Investment Control, Data Administration and Software Acquisition. She was hired as NARA's Software Architect and also has served as the Director of the Systems Development Division, responsible for IT Project Management. Her most recent position, prior to her appointment as CIO, was in the Office of Records Services in Washington, DC, supporting NARA digitization efforts and IT initiatives.

Prior to coming to NARA, she worked at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as a Software Branch Chief for major weather systems acquisitions and as a member of NOAA's Systems Engineering Staff. She also has held various IT positions at the Departments of Education, Defense, and the Social Security Administration.

Ms. Morphy has an MS in Computer Systems Management from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a BS in Education with a concentration in Mathematics from the State University of New York at Oswego.
