(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – As a way to explore cutting-edge energy research and development in North Dakota and around the nation, U.S. Senator Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) has announced the first-ever Sustainable Energy Innovations Action Summit.

Dorgan is co-organizing the event with the Red River Valley Research Corridor, North Dakota State University, University of North Dakota, the Energy and Environmental Research Center, Argonne National Laboratory, and Northwestern University. The summit will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Fargo’s Ramada Plaza and Suites.

Keynote speakers and panel sessions will highlight cutting-edge innovations in chemical engineering, computer science and mechanical engineering that will help solve the nation’s energy challenges. Keynote speakers for the event include Dr. Eric Isaacs, Argonne National Lab’s director, and David Turek, IBM Corp.’s vice president of deep computing.

“The purpose of this event is to have a discussion with innovators from around the country about the very latest methods in sustainable energy research and development,” Dorgan said. “Events like this are important to America’s effort to modernize energy production and free itself from a dependence on foreign energy.”

Dorgan is Chairman of the Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee and a senior member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. He has worked vigorously to further energy development in his home state and around the country.
