Career Series: 1102 – Contract Specialist

Educational Background:
I have a Bachelor of Science in Finance from West Virginia University.

How I found out about the Intern Program:
I applied for the contract specialist intern program after reading about it online at usajobs.gov.

The reason I decided to take this position:
The program was enticing in that it offered a robust learning experience to include desirable rotational assignments and opportunities to take on new and exciting projects. In comparison to my previous job in private industry, this position had heightened level of autonomy and the potential for rapid promotions.

What I do to support our nation's Warfighters:
I am the contracting officer for the Enhanced Mobile Satellite Services (EMSS) program office. Among other things, this program provides the satellite phones that help keep our soldiers on the battlefield informed and connected. I am proud that the contracts I work on directly affect the day-to-day lives of our military personnel.

My favorite work-life benefit:
All of DISA’s work-life programs are great. I take advantage of the wellness program the most; I usually go running outside near my home or work out at the DISA fitness facility twice a week (for an hour each time).

My advice to those interested in a contract specialist intern position at DISA:
Contracting is the thread that sews the mission of this agency. So much of what we do to support the warfighter is accomplished with industry's support and innovation. We create the contracts that make it happen!  Also, an interested applicant should note that this position is not monotonous and affords one the ability to constantly grow and learn in various capacities.
