THE FORT MEADE POST

Fort Meade is virtually a city in itself. It consists of 5,415 acres with 65.5 miles of paved roads, 3.3 miles of secondary roads, and about 1,300 buildings. There is a modern exchange mall, bank, credit union, post office, chapels and many other facilities.

With approximately 40,000 military, civilian, and contractor personnel, Fort Meade has the fourth largest workforce of Army installations in the United States.

Benefits of Working on Post

DISA's civilian workforce will be eligible to utilize a number of Fort Meade facilities and services upon relocation. The following are available to DoD civilians working on post:

CHILD CARE

Fort Meade offers three child development centers as well as the Family Child Care Provider program. Active duty military personnel, Department of Defense civilians, Reservists and National Guard soldiers on active duty status and Fort Meade DoD contractors are eligible for the child care services offered.

Child Development Center I

  • Full-day child care for children 6 weeks to 5 years old, Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Hourly care for children six weeks to 5 years old, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.


Child Development Center II

  • Full-day child care for children 6 weeks to 5 years old, Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Part-day Preschool for children 3 and 4 year old. Classes are 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday during the school year.

  • Full-day child care for children 6 weeks to 5 years old, Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

  • The Family Child Care (FCC) program provides a flexible, family-based alternative to our Child Development Centers
  • Care is provided by military family members in installation housing
  • All FCC providers receive the same training as the workers at our Child Development Centers
  • Care is coordinated through an online system at Child and Youth Service's Central Registration

RECREATION

The Lanes at Fort Meade

  • The Lanes is one of the finest bowling facilities in the military. Featuring 36 lanes of bowling, a full service Pro Shop (#1 in the Army), and a sensational cafe, The Lanes at Fort Meade is a family fun center. The Lanes at Fort Meade offers a variety of traditional league bowling, as well as open play for the recreational bowler. Sunday's are family days, featuring discounted bowling.

Burba Park Recreation Areas

  • Picnics and celebrations are often held in Burba Park. Five picnic pavilions and a cottage are available on a reservation basis for a nominal fee. There is a lake in the park and a playground open from dawn to dusk.

Gaffney Fitness Center

  • Gaffney Fitness Center is the gym on post. It is a complete facility equipped with a 25 meter indoor pool with six lanes, a sauna, two racquetball courts, three basketball courts, a cardiovascular room with treadmills, steppers, bikes, rowers, and more.

The Courses at Fort Meade

  • The Courses Fort Meade is one of the finest golf facilities in the military. It features 27 holes of championship play, and practice facilities that include a spacious putting green, chipping area and lighted driving range.
  • The clubhouse offers a fully stocked golf Pro Shop, club storage and repair service, a spacious locker room and ample meeting space. The dining and lounge facilities offer a variety of food and beverage services in a relaxed atmosphere.

Outdoor Recreation Equipment Rental

  • Boating, camping, skiing, snowboarding, picnic, and sporting equipment are all available for rent.
OTHER SERVICES

Meade Medal of Honor Library

  • The library has more than 35,000 titles and subscribes to 120 periodicals and 8 newspapers. Multimedia items such as videos and books on CD are also available.

Club Meade

  • Club Meade offers daily dining options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as catering and wedding packages.

The Arts & Crafts Center offers a wide range of services and classes:
