Statistics for Scientists and EngineersStatistical concepts and methods are indispensable to research efficiency and planning, as well as to characterization of measurement uncertainty. As part of our effort to help NIST scientists and engineers take advantage of statistical techniques, the Statistical Engineering Division offers a series of short courses which cover the core areas of statistics along with selected special topics. Each course covers one major area or aspect of statistics, with an emphasis on applications to NIST scientific and engineering problems. The objective of each course is to help researchers recognize opportunities for the use of particular statistical methods and to offer practical guidance in their application. Courses include:
There is sometimes a nominal fee each course which includes the cost of textbooks, notebooks, or any other course materials. Registration for each course, through the NIST Training Office, is also required. For more detailed information contact the course coordinator, Mark Vangel, at mark.vangel@nist.gov or x3208. Check the SED Calendar for information on upcoming courses and for registration deadlines.
