Measuring What Matters: Proceedings From the Police Research Institute Meetings

July 1999
Are traditional measures of police performance still meaningful for law enforcement agencies that have adopted the principles of community policing? Measuring What Matters: Proceedings From the Police Research Institute Meetings presents a compilation of papers presented at three meetings convened to focus on how to measure crime, disorder, and fear; public attitudes and expectations; and the performance of police in light of the expanded goals of community policing. The authors examine the implications of measuring community policing performance and provide new assessment criteria for organizations to monitor their community policing efforts.
