The Western Governors’ Association is an independent, nonprofit organization representing the governors of 19 states and three U.S.-Flag islands in the Pacific. Through their Association, the Western governors identify and address key policy and governance issues in natural resources, the environment, human services, economic development, international relations and public management.

Transportation Fuels
The Governors have released a report on the status of alternative fuels use in the West. It notes that there is no silver bullet to the challenges to expanded use of alternative fuels in the West and it identifies key policy issues that merit additional consideration by the Governors.

Wildfire
Wildfires have always been part of our western landscape. However, they are increasing in frequency and size. WGA's Forest Health Advisory Committee is working with the Forest Service, Department of the Interior, states, tribes, counties and interested stakeholders to improve wildland fire management in the West.

Renewable Energy
The WGA and the U.S. Department of Energy have released a joint report that takes the first steps toward identifying those areas in the Western Interconnection that have both the potential for large scale development of renewable resources and low environmental impacts.
