Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) recognized its brightest stars on Sept. 6 for their selfless contributions and inspiring work over the past year with an awards ceremony during the Presidents Dinner, the closing event of the 2008 MADD National Conference in Dallas, Texas.
For the first time, MADD selected a law enforcement partnership with national honors. The Cincinnati Police Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol's District 8 were selected as the Outstanding Law Enforcement Award, Agency winners. These two departments combined efforts to conduct enforcement blitzes in high-crash locations during peak travel periods in 2007. The 11-week enforcement effort decreased the number of collisions by more than 60 percent from 2006. The outstanding enforcement effort contributed to the state having the lowest number of traffic fatalities in 70 years. |
