ISP, IDOT, and Tollway urge drivers to comply with posted speed limits

The Illinois State Police (ISP), alongside the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and Illinois Tollway want to remind motorists construction season is underway and warn that tough laws are in place to buckle down on speeders in work zones. Legislation that was signed into law back in 2004 targets drivers who flout work zone speed limits and endanger the lives of construction workers and other drivers. The enforcement of this legislation has been effective in reducing work zone fatalities by over 50 percent.
Illinois honors Illinois State Police Officers, Telecommunicator and Forensic Scientist of the Year

Illinois State Police Director Jonathon E. Monken today announced Illinois State Police Officer, Telecommunicator, and Forensic Scientist of the Year award winners during the agency’s annual awards ceremony held in Springfield. Sharing the title of Officer of the Year are Trooper Christopher Owen and Special Agent Joshua A. Anderton. Cheryl N. Thomas was named Telecommunicator of the Year, and Mr. Robert D. Reneau was presented with the Forensic Scientist of the Year Award.
Governor Quinn Presents 19 Officers with Medal of Honor

The annual awards ceremony honors law enforcement officers who have distinguished themselves by exhibiting bravery at the risk of their own lives.
Illinois State Police and IDOT stress the importance of safety belt use

The Illinois State Police (ISP) and Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) are teaming up with more than 500 local law enforcement agencies to conduct aggressive safety belt enforcement efforts throughout the state of Illinois. During the Memorial Day “Click it or Ticket" mobilization, May 15-31, motorists can expect an increase in nighttime enforcement with more than 180 enforcement zones in addition to the more than 400 daytime safety belt enforcement zones conducted by law enforcement agencies throughout the state. During the May mobilization, Illinois agencies will also be coordinating with their Missouri and Iowa counterparts to increase traffic safety within their respective states.
ISP, IDOT, and Motorcyclists Launch 2009 Riding Season Safety Outreach

In order to put a spotlight on motorcycle safety as the 2009 riding season gets underway, Governor Pat Quinn has proclaimed May Motorcycle Awareness Month in Illinois. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Illinois State Police (ISP) and motorcycle safety advocates are urging the public to “Start Seeing Motorcycles" and to share the road with motorcycle riders. In addition, IDOT is offering free courses for beginning and intermediate riders to reduce the severity and frequency of motorcycle crashes.
