Elena Ulyanova
Russian pianist Elena Ulyanova received her Master of Music from the Moscow Conservatory and is a laureate of the Second Rachmaninoff International Piano Competition. She will perform Beethoven’s Appassionata Sonata, Rachmaninoff’s Sonata No. 2, as well as the music of Chopin, Soler, and Debussy.

Trelumina Trio

Afro Bop Alliance
When jazz septet Afro Bop Alliance returns to the Take Five! jazz series, the visitors will hear plenty of material from their 2008 Latin Grammy Award-winning album. The band combines the harmonic language of jazz with the rhythmic language of Afro Cuban rhythms.

The 21st Century Consort presents the music of our time in a challenging and enjoyable program with Artistic Director Christopher Kendall and consort artists Elisabeth Adkins, Paul Cigan, Lisa Emenheiser, Tom Jones, Sara Stern, and Rachel Young, with guest soloists Lucy Shelton and William Sharp. The concert is a tribute to the late Nicholas Maw, Washington resident for twenty-five years and among the great composers of our time.

Members of the consort will perform Maw’s intensely lyrical music, including Head of Orpheus, Ghost Dances, Roman Canticle, and La Vita Nuova.

Pre-concert discussion at 4 p.m. Reception follows.
