Prior to your first day of employment, you will receive specific written instructions on when and
who to report to. All new employees hired for positions in Headquarters will report to the Human Resources
Division (HRD).
Once you arrive at Headquarters, HRD, you will receive the Oath of Office
and be sworn in as a Federal employee. You will be asked to complete various appointment documents such as the
SF-61, Appointment Affidavits; OF-306, Declaration for Federal Employment; AD-349, Employee Address, etc.
You will discuss and receive information on various topics about the Agency, your employing office, policies
and procedures, etc. You will also have your photo taken and receive your official USDA ID. This identification
card will enable you to obtain access to the USDA building. You will then be escorted to another branch where
the FSIS Transit Subsidy Program will be explained. Once all of the above has been completed, you will then be
escorted to your job site.
During your first few weeks on the job, you will receive an
email notice to attend two New Employee Orientation Program sessions, "FSIS–The BIG Picture,"
and "Regulatory Framework". FSIS–The BIG Picture will provide you with more information
about the Agency—who we are, what we do, and how we get it done. The Regulatory Framework session
will give you a clearer of the context in which you will be performing your new job.
