Description: A manufactured structure installation inspector conducts field inspections of manufactured dwelling or park trailer installations covered by the manufactured dwelling standard. This certification does not include inspections or plan reviews of manufactured structure accessory structures and accessory buildings. A Manufactured structure includes residential trailer, mobile home, manufactured home and manufactured dwelling.

To work as a Manufactured Structures Installation Inspector in Oregon you must possess:
    1) a Manufactured Structures Installation Inspector Certification obtained prior to 10/1/05, or
    2) an Oregon Inspector Certification and certification as an Oregon Manufactured Structures Installation Inspector issued after 10/1/05.

Examination Information:
  • Applicants approved to take an examination will be sent a "Letter of Authorization." This letter will explain the procedure for taking the examination and the address and telephone number of the test site selected.
  • Examination date and time is scheduled by the applicant with the test site office personnel. Upon arrival at the test site, the applicant must provide photo identification and a Letter of Authorization.
  • If the examination is not taken within 60 days of the date of the authorization letter, a written request and an additional $22.00 fee will be required.
  • Applicants are requested to bring their own pencils and calculator; scratch paper will be provided. Programmable calculators and laptop computers are not permitted.
  • Please allow two weeks for Building Codes Division to grade exams. Do not contact the test location for grade results. The Building Codes Division will mail notification of grade results to the applicant. Licenses will be issued after the applicant has passed the examination and paid the appropriate fees.

    Continuing Ed Requirements:
    • Every inspector and plans examiner certified under these rules shall be required to obtain at least six hours of continuing education credit each year in classes related to their duties as an inspector or plans examiner.
    • Inspectors and plans examiners certified under two or more specialty codes shall be required to obtain at least 12 hours of continuing education credit each year.
    • In code change years, inspectors and plans examiners shall no later than 12 months after adoption, be required to attend at least one division-approved class covering recent code changes for each certification in which a code change has been adopted.

    Prerequisites: Either of the following meets minimum experience requirements:
      (1) 3200 hours of experience as a supervisor in the building construction industry.
      (2) 3200 hours of experience in design work related to the building construction industry.
      (3) 3200 hours experience as a quality assurance inspector in a manufactured structure manufacturing plant
      (4) 3200 hours experience as an Oregon licensed manufactured dwelling installer.

    Any of the following may substitute for 3200 hours of experience:
      (1) A current state certification in building construction inspection or plan examiner.
      (2) A one-year college certificate of completion in building inspection.
      (3)Two years of college education in a building construction related curriculum.

    Any combination of experience and education in the building construction industry totaling two years.
