Description: An Underground Storage Tank General Permit Registration Certificate must be obtained to operate and deposit a regulated substance into a tank that stores petroleum products or hazardous substances. Farm and residential tanks of 1,100 gallons or less capacity and heating oil tanks containing heating oil for consumptive use on the premises where stored are exempt.

Duration: Terminates when the tank is decommissioned.
Fees - application, exam, etc.:  $135 per tank, effective January 2008, plus a $400 per tank installation fee must accompany the General Permit Registration Form to Install and Operate Regulated Underground Storage Tanks. In addition, a $135 annual compliance fee is owed for each calendar year or portion of any year that the tank is not decommissioned.

Insurance Requirements: Owners must demonstrate financial responsibility except for federal and state governments.
Prerequisites: Proof of insurance and for new tanks, approval by the DEQ of the UST installation.
