School Psychologists assess students' mental aptitude, emotional development, motor skills, or educational progress; design educational programs for students and confer with licensed personnel regarding such programs and confer with parents regarding assessments.
Examination: CBEST: $41. Praxis PPST: $35 each section (Reading, Writing and Mathematics). Original License: $100 for Oregon prepared applicants, $120 for out-of-state prepared applicants. Renewal: $100 (Initial license must be renewed every three years; Continuing license must be renewed every five years.)
Exam Time: CBEST: February, April, June, August, October and December. PPST: January, March, April, June, September and November. Exam Locs: CBEST: Ashland, Bend, Eugene, La Grande, Monmouth, Ontario and Portland PPST: Ashland, Bend, Coos Bay, Corvallis, Eugene, La Grande, Monmouth, Portland and St. Helens. Exam Pass: CBEST: Total score of 123. The lowest possible score for passing a content area is 37, provided that the passing total score of 123 is achieved. PPST: Reading (174), Writing (171), and Mathematics (175). Exam Repeat: Unlimited.
Prerequisites:
1. Complete a master's degree from an approved teacher education institution. 2. Complete an approved school psychologist program, or hold a current license issued by another state valid for school psychologists, or hold a current National School Psychology Certificate awarded by the National Association of School Psychologists. 3. Pass either the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) or the PPST or complete a doctorate degree in a regionally accredited college or university. 4. Pass the NTE Specialty Test in School Psychologist Test 10400 with a minimum score of 620 or verify five years of full-time successful school psychologist experience in the out-of-state public schools or private regionally accredited private schools.
