Description: Required prior to drilling a geothermal well.

Duration: 1 year from date of issuance
Fees - application, exam, etc.:  $250 application fee.

Drilling must commence within one year from the date of issuance. The permit may be extended for a maximum of an additional one year upon receipt of written request from the permittee, before the expiration date, giving reasons for an extension. The request shall be accompanied by a nonrefundable fee of $250.

The permit must be renewed annually ($500 renewal fee) until the site is closed.
Responsible Agency: Geology and Mineral Industries
Bonding Requirements: $10,000 for each well drilled to a depth less than 2,000 feet, $15,000 for each well to a depth of 2,000 to 5,000 feet, or $25,000 for each well to a depth greater than 5,000 feet.
Insurance Requirements: None

Renewals: The permit must be renewed annually and a bond must be maintained until the site and the file can be closed.
