Description: A separate discipline from hair design, barbering includes the practice of shaving, trimming, or cutting of the beard, and the arranging, cutting, styling, dressing, shampooing, cleansing and conditioning or temporary curling of the hair.

Prerequisites: Different Paths to Licensure in Oregon
Path One:
Graduating from an oregon career school or non-credentialed from another state or country:
    1. Complete application.
    2. Complete an approved program at an Oregon career school or; submit training, education and work experience to the Health Licensing Agency for evaluation and coordination of authorization with the Department of Education in one or more of the following:
      Hair Design 1450 hours
      Barbering 1100 hours
      Esthetics 250 hours
      Nail Technology 350 hours
      In addition, all students must complete the following:
      Safety/Sanitation 150 hours
      Career Development 100 hours
    3. Submit an official transcript from a cosmetology college in Oregon.
    4. Pass a written and practical examination approved or recognized by the Board of Cosmetology.
    5. Pay appropriate certificate and examination fees.
Path Two:
Applicants certified or licensed in another US state or other country:
    1. Complete application.
    2. Submit a current Affidavit of Licensure, available either from the Health Licensing Agency or your current state's licensing agency.
    3. Show evidence of no disciplinary action on certificate or license.
    4. Pay appropriate certificate and examination fees<.ul>

Renewals: Application for renewal shall be made in advance of the expiration date, which is the last day of the month two years from the date the license was issued. 
Duplicate: A duplicate, or replacement, license is issued only if the original document has been lost, stolen, disfigured or destroyed and if conditions outlined in OAR 817-035-0110 are met.
