Description: A permit or registration is required for operation of most "composting facilities." "Composting facility" means a site or facility which uses organic solid waste or mixed solid waste to produce a useful product through a managed process of controlled biological decomposition. Composting may include amendments beneficial to the composting process. Vermiculture, vermicomposting and agricultural composting operations are considered composting facilities. Some agricultural composting operations are exempt from DEQ solid waste composting facility permitting requirements. See Composting Program for more information.
