If you have not completed an approved teacher education program in any state or been licensed as a full-time teacher in any state, your employer must co-apply for this license, and it will be restricted to 60 days total use during each school year.

"Substitute teacher" means any teacher who is employed to take the place of a probationary or contract teacher who is temporarily absent.

Exam Time: Praxis PPST: January, March, April, June, September and November. CBEST: February, April, June, August, October and December. 1. Complete a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution. 2. Complete approved teacher education program; OR hold a current license issued by another state and valid for the endorsement area. 3. Must pass either the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) OR the Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) OR verify completion of a doctorate degree through a regionally accredited college or university. 4. Pass subject matter exam(s) in endorsement area(s) or verify five years of successful full-time employment in a licensed position in an out-of-state public school or private regionally accredited school.
