This information offers a basic account of the global political and economic context within which the Department of State and other entities conducted U.S. diplomatic relations.
The section is divided into 18 basic time periods. Brief introductions to each of these 18 time periods provide some historical context for the information contained in the essays on specific historical events between 1750 and the present.
