Governor Rell: $7.5 Million in Stimulus Funds
Headed to Connecticut for Lead Abatement
Governor M. Jodi Rell announced today nearly $7.5 million in federal stimulus funds have been awarded to three Connecticut cities and a major hospital for lead abatement work.
The announcement comes just one week after President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 into law.
“I am pleased the federal government is moving so swiftly to bring these much-needed funds to the state and our communities,” Governor Rell said. “The task of removing lead and other hazards will not only create jobs and allow us to address housing conditions that threaten public health.”
The $7.5 million is in the form of grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Governor said the recipients and breakdown of the grants are:
· Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, Hartford, $875,000
· City of New London, $2 million
· City of Norwich, $1.69 million
· City of Waterbury, $3 million
Governor Rell said the Connecticut recipients were among the 53 entities to be awarded nearly $100 million in HUD grants for lead abatement.
