PUBLIC GOVERNMENT BUSINESS A to Z LIST

Small Public Water Supply Help Center/
Capacity Assurance
faucet Historically, small public water systems have carried a much higher burden, per capita, to maintain compliance with the increasing requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). This is due not only to their smaller user base for distributing the costs of operation and maintenance, but insufficient technical, financial or managerial resources needed to meet today’s public health objectives. The 1996 Amendments to the SDWA required USEPA and the states to adopt a Capacity Assurance/Capacity Development Program, whereby free technical assistance, training and publications are provided to support compliance and long-term sustainability of small water systems.
