Description: An Exploration Permit must be obtained prior to exploration operations disturbing more than one surface acre or involves drilling to greater than 50 feet.

Fees - application, exam, etc.:  $400 application fee

Bonding Requirements: The reclamation security amount is site specific.
Prerequisites: If the applicant is other than an individual, the entity must be registered to do business in Oregon if required by the Secretary of State's office, Corporation Division. SOS - Corporation Division Website
Application Form: Exploration Application (SMLR1X)
Renewals: The permit must be renewed annually until reclamation has been completed or until an Operating Permit is obtained. The annual renewal fee is $300.

Additional Information: NOTE: Other state, federal, and local agencies may require the applicant to obtain approval prior to operation. For example, the United States Forest Service (USFS) requires a notice of intent or plan of operations. Where feasible, the department shall coordinate with other agencies to avoid duplication on the part of applicants. An Exploration Permit from the department does not constitute authorization to proceed without approval of other agencies if required. It is the applicant's responsibility to obtain other necessary permits.
