Description: This permit is required prior to performing any type of electrical work to a residential or commercial building. There are separate applications for the Electrical Permit and the Limited Renewable Energy Permit. The Limited Renewable Energy system Permits.

Jurisdiction - Usually the administration of the building code, and permit and inspection services are accomplished by the local cities and counties. In some counties, it is accomplished by the State Building Codes Division. Duration: 180 days
Fees - application, exam, etc.:  Depends on the type of work you will be doing. A 1,200 sq ft home averages a fee of $250.

Prerequisites: Be the property owner doing the work on your primary residence, or a property owner hiring a licensed contractor or be a licensed contractor who is licensed with Building Codes and CCB or LCB.

Required Documentation: Licensed contractor will need to show proof of license. In some cases, you may need 2 sets of plans for a plan review.
Additional Information: If new construction, zoning approval must be provided by 10 days after first inspection. If you work without an Electrical Permit, you can be fined up to $1,000 a day.
