This apprenticeship leads to the Limited Journeyman Manufacturing Plant Electrician license. Manufacturing plant electricians provide basic electrical maintenance on existing equipment in factories and industrial manufacturing facilities. They also install and wire electric motors and machinery of all sizes, and perform preventive maintenance on production and facilities equipment, initiate and modify electrical designs, and update electrical drawings. |

Most apprenticeship programs do not charge an application fee although a few charge a modest fee of up to $25. Apprentices are expected to pay tuition and for books, normally about $400 to $500 per year, although in many cases, these costs are paid by the employer or reimbursed to the apprentice by the apprenticeship committee. |

Prerequisites: |
Apprenticeship applicants must be at least 17 years of age to apply, and 18 to begin the program. In addition, they must provide proof of high school graduation or equivalent general education development (GED) certificate. They must also complete at least one year of high school math or equivalent post-high school math course or provide equivalent math placement test results. Apprenticeship committees may require additional qualifications.
These programs are only open to employees of training agents already registered with the local apprenticeship committees. Requirements vary among programs. |
