Description: Plumbing inspectors conduct on-site construction inspections and may review construction plans for all work regulated by the Plumbing Specialty Code.

To work as a Plumbing Inspector in Oregon you must possess:
    1) a Plumbing Inspector Certification obtained prior to 10/1/05, or
    2) an Oregon Inspector Certification and certification as an Oregon Plumbing Inspector issued after 10/1/05.

Examination Information: Written exam: 4 hour 64 question open book. All questions are multiple choice or True/False. Minimum score to pass the exam - 75 percent.
Examination procedure
Continuing Ed Requirements: 6 hours of code related per year, and an approved code-change course within nine months of the effective date of the code.

Prerequisites: An applicant will be certified as a plumbing inspector if the following minimum qualifications are met: (pursuant to 918-695-0400)
    1. 4,800 hours employment and experience as a Journeyman Plumber, with an Oregon Journeyman Plumber's Certificate of Competency;
    2. A degree in mechanical engineering or professional registration with 3,200 hours work experience in plumbing design, installation or inspection;
    3. 8,000 hours of work experience in the inspection of plumbing installations of which at least 4,000 hours is of commercial, industrial and multi-family structures, or if the 8,000 hours of work experience is in the inspection of one- and two-family dwelling installations, the completion of a division-approved plumbing inspector in-training program;
    4. Board-approved equivalent experience and training of paragraphs (1), (2) and (3) above; or
    5. Persons certified as Oregon one and two family dwelling plumbing inspectors as of April 1, 1998, and completing five years of plumbing inspection experience shall be considered qualified to sit for examinations as a plumbing inspector.
